If you work as a Personal Trainer we can bet our bottom dollar that when you mention it to people you meet they ‘oooh’ and ahhh’ as if they think it is a glamorous job. And whilst it’s great to be working in an industry which you love, we all know that Personal Training is far from glamorous….getting up at the crack of dawn, working late nights (after all, before and after work is a peak time for Personal Trainers to train with their clients), and often spending time in sweaty kit is far from glamorous. Whilst this level of dedication is admirable, what makes a Personal Trainer stand out from the crowd?
As someone who recruits Personal Trainers, for me, someone who performs CPD in various fitness courses, along with experience of working as a Personal Trainer will always be a stronger candidate than someone who hasn’t done any recent studying.
What are the benefits of performing CPD?
• New research is always being performed in the Health & Fitness industry which means that training protocols about how to achieve the best results with your clients are always changing. To keep achieving optimum results with your personal training clients it is essential that you keep up with the latest research.
• It keeps you fresh and energised. Remember when you first started studying your Level 3 Personal Trainers qualification – you were keen, eager and couldn’t wait to impart your knowledge to your clients. Keep this spark and enthusiasm alive by attending other CPD courses.
• Attending CPD courses and other fitness courses allows you to network with other Personal Trainers and Fitness Professionals. Working as a PT can sometimes be a lonely business, especially if you are self-employed, so it’s great to meet other people and discuss new ideas and training techniques.
• You will increase your client retention. If your personal training clients see that you are keen to develop your skill set, they will be more likely to continue training with you as they know you are continually striving to improve yourself so you can achieve their goals.
We work in an industry where training methods are always changing – to continue to be the best Personal Trainer that you can be it is essential that you attend further fitness courses and perform CPD training, otherwise you will be left behind and find your earning potential dwindle.
